Short answer: yes, you can screen print on polyester — and we do it all the time. But polyester behaves very differently from cotton under the heat of a screen-print cure, so it takes the right inks and a careful process to get a clean, lasting result.
Here's what actually matters.
Polyester is dyed with disperse dyes that can turn into a gas when heated. During the curing stage of screen printing, those dyes can migrate up into your ink and discolor it — most famously, a white print on a red polyester shirt turning pink a few days later. This is called dye migration, and it's the number-one reason DIY polyester prints fail.
Done right, screen printing on polyester is bold, durable, and holds up wash after wash — ideal for jerseys, performance tees, and athletic wear.
Screen printing is the most cost-effective choice for larger runs (24+ pieces) with a handful of ink colors. But if you're printing:
then DTF is often the better fit for polyester — it transfers a flexible, opaque layer that resists dye migration by design.
Polyester is absolutely printable — it just isn't a "set it and forget it" fabric. The key is matching the ink and process to the garment. If you tell us the exact garment and design, we'll recommend the right method and send a free quote within 24 hours. Start your quote.
