Merch fulfillment means one partner prints your merchandise, stores it, and then picks, packs, and ships each order to your customers as it comes in. The cost is built from three parts, the decorated product itself, per-order handling, and postage, so you pay as orders ship instead of buying pallets of inventory and boxes of poly mailers upfront.

If you sell shirts for a band, a brand, a school, or a company, fulfillment is the difference between running a merch line and running a shipping department out of your garage. Here is what a real fulfillment service includes and how the pricing actually works.

What does a merch fulfillment service include?

A full-service program like our fulfillment and 3PL service covers four jobs you would otherwise do yourself:

  • Warehousing and inventory. Your printed goods live in our facility, counted and tracked, so you always know what is in stock.
  • Pick, pack, and ship. When an order comes in, we pull the right size and design, pack it professionally with your branded materials, and get it out the door. Orders placed before 2 PM ship the same day.
  • Shipping and logistics. Carrier selection, label printing, and tracking numbers back to you and your customer.
  • Integration and kitting. Store platforms connect directly so orders flow in automatically, and multi-item bundles like welcome boxes or tour packs are assembled to spec.

Because the printing and the fulfillment happen under one roof, there is no freight leg between your printer and your warehouse, and reprints or restocks go straight from press to shelf.

How much does merch fulfillment cost?

No honest fulfillment quote is a single number, because the bill has three separate parts:

Cost componentWhat drives itHow to control it
Decorated productPrint method, quantity, colors, blank garmentBatch production into larger runs
Per-order handlingPicking, packing, materialsSimple packaging, fewer items per order
PostagePackage weight and destinationLightweight mailers, accurate weights

The product side is the biggest lever. Screen printing has a 24-piece minimum per design and gets cheaper per piece as quantity climbs, so collecting orders and printing in batches beats printing one shirt at a time. Current per-piece numbers by quantity are in our screen printing cost guide, and the quote builder will price your exact design and garment. Handling and postage are quoted per program based on your order profile, since a one-shirt mailer and a five-item gift box are very different jobs.

Do you need to hold inventory to sell merch?

No. There are two working models, and fulfillment supports both. A stocked store prints inventory ahead of demand so every order ships same day. A pre-order or drop model collects orders during a sales window, then produces everything in one efficient batch, so nothing is printed that has not already sold. Drops trade a short wait for zero inventory risk, and they pair naturally with the batch pricing above. We compared the two models in detail in our guide to selling merch without inventory, and our online store program is built to run either way.

How fast do fulfillment orders ship?

For stocked items, orders placed before 2 PM leave the same day. For made-to-order and pre-order programs, production time applies first: screen printed goods typically run 7-10 business days and DTG runs 5-7 business days, then orders ship as they finish. A drop campaign usually publishes a single promised delivery window to customers, which keeps expectations clean.

Is fulfillment worth it for a small merch line?

Run the math on your own time. Every order you ship yourself costs a trip to the post office, packing materials bought retail, and the hours you could have spent making the next design. Fulfillment earns its keep when order volume is steady enough that packing is eating your week, when you are selling during a tour or a season and cannot be near your inventory, or when a store needs to stay open year-round without you touching it.

For very small lines, a pre-order drop through an online store is usually the smarter start: no inventory, one production batch, one bulk shipment or direct-to-fan fulfillment, your choice.

Fulfillment is also not just for bands and brands. The same warehouse and pick-pack-ship workflow runs corporate gifting programs, where welcome boxes and client gifts are kitted and shipped to individual addresses, and event fulfillment, where everything for a conference or festival arrives at the venue counted, sorted, and ready to hand out.

How do you get started?

Start with the product, since it drives most of the cost. Price your design in the quote builder, then tell us about your store and shipping profile through the fulfillment page. We will come back with a program quote that covers printing, storage, handling, and shipping in one place, so you can compare it honestly against doing it all yourself.
