French Press Custom prints team shirts and hoodies for high school coaches and booster clubs in Downey, Norwalk and the rest of Southeast LA from our shop at 14130 Rosecrans Ave in Santa Fe Springs. For a 50-player order, a black Gildan 5000 team tee with a one-color front print is $11.11 per shirt and a black Gildan 18500 hoodie is $29.47, before sales tax. For a smaller roster of 24, we use DTF transfers instead of screen printing: $9.77 per tee and $28.13 per hoodie with a full-color front.

Names and numbers are added with heat transfer vinyl or DTF, piece by piece, on top of the main print. Standard turnaround is about 2-3 weeks after the artwork is approved and the deposit is paid, so the order should start well before the first game.

Every price below comes from our live quote engine, the same one behind the quote calculator. Prices are per piece before sales tax, in sizes S to XL, on a black garment, with the garment and the front print included. Screen setup is built into the per-piece price.

Fabric details are from the S&S Activewear catalog for each style. Our live catalog carries 83 colors of the Gildan 5000, 96 of the Bella+Canvas 3001, 47 of the Gildan 18500 and 21 of the Gildan 42000, so most school colors (black, navy, royal, red, maroon, gold, purple and several greens) are covered. Youth sizes XS to XL are available in the Gildan 5000B tee and 18500B hoodie for JV, freshman and younger siblings.

Sizes 2XL and up carry a supplier upcharge, and it is larger on fleece. At 50 pieces, a 2XL Gildan 18500 hoodie with a one-color front is $34.83 instead of $29.47, and a 2XL Gildan 5000 tee is $13.95 instead of $11.11. The calculator prices each size separately, so a roster with a lot of linemen will land a little higher than the S to XL figures.

Why 24 shirts and 50 shirts are priced differently

Screen printing starts at 36 pieces per design. Below that, a 24-player roster goes to DTF. DTF prints the full design onto a film that we press onto each shirt. It has a 12-piece minimum, no screens, and color count does not change the price, so a detailed mascot costs the same as a one-color wordmark at the same print size.

At 50 pieces, both methods are open. On a black tee, DTF is actually cheaper for a front print: $8.79 per piece on a Gildan 5000, against $11.11 for a one-color screen print. Part of the reason is that every screen print on a dark shirt gets a white underbase first, which is an extra screen, so a one-color design on black prints as two screens. Our quote includes it automatically. On a light shirt with dark ink, the underbase screen drops off and the screen print price comes down.

If you want a stitched look instead, embroidery starts at 24 pieces. A left-chest logo of about 5,000 stitches on a black Gildan 18500 hoodie is $34.51 per piece at 24 and $31.78 at 50. Those figures already include the one-time $45 digitizing fee, spread across the order. We keep the stitch file, so next season's reorder skips that fee.

Front and back prints

Most team shirts carry the school or program name on the front and something on the back. Adding a one-color back print to a one-color front at 50 pieces brings a black Gildan 5000 to $16.80 and a black Gildan 18500 hoodie to $35.16. With DTF at 24 pieces, a front and back transfer is $14.89 on the Gildan 5000 and $33.25 on the 18500 hoodie.

A shared back design (the season, the sport, or a slogan) is one screen for the whole team. Individual names and numbers are a different job, covered next.

Names and numbers

When every player needs a different name or number, we do not make a screen for each one. Names and numbers are applied with heat transfer vinyl or DTF, one piece at a time, on top of the main print. Each one is its own application, so they are quoted per piece. Tell us how many personalized pieces there are, and which players get which name and number, when you request the quote.

As a guide, our calculator prices one one-color heat transfer vinyl placement (a back number, for example) at $2.33 per piece at 24 and $1.65 at 50, decoration only. Two one-color placements (a back name and a back number) are $4.67 per piece at 24 and $3.30 at 50. Your quote confirms the final figure for your roster. Heat transfer vinyl starts at 6 pieces, so a small batch of late additions or replacement numbers can still be done.

Ordering by size without the chaos

The single biggest delay on a team order is the size list. What works:

  • Collect sizes by name, in writing. A form or a shared sheet beats a group chat. Put the player's name, size, and any name or number in one row.
  • Use the real size range of the garment you picked. The Gildan 5000 runs S to 5XL in adult sizes and XS to XL in youth (5000B). The 18500 hoodie runs XS to 5XL. Do not let players guess between brands.
  • Order a few spares in the middle sizes. A small reorder later prices very differently than extra pieces on the original run, and screen print screens are remade for every order.
  • Send the roster with the size list. If names and numbers are going on, we need the spelling and number for every piece before the proof.

If families are paying for their own gear, an online team store lets each family order its own size, and Youth Sports Team Store: A Setup Guide walks through how it runs.

Deadlines before the season

Our standard turnaround is about 2-3 weeks after the artwork is approved and the deposit is paid. The clock starts at approval, not at the first email, so plan backward from the date you need the shirts in hand:

  1. Pick the date. First game, team photo day, or a booster sale night.
  2. Add the 2-3 weeks of production.
  3. Add time before that to collect sizes and money from players and parents. This is usually the slowest step.
  4. Add a few days for the proof. Every order gets a free digital proof, and production starts only after your written approval. It is the last point where a typo, a color or a misspelled name can be fixed for free.

If the date is tight, rush is available depending on the schedule. Tell us your date when you ask for the quote and we will tell you honestly what fits.

Frequently asked questions

Who prints team shirts and hoodies for high school sports near Downey or Norwalk?

French Press Custom prints them in-house at 14130 Rosecrans Ave in Santa Fe Springs, close to both cities. We do screen printing, DTF, heat transfer vinyl names and numbers, and embroidery, with free pickup at the shop.

How much do 50 team hoodies cost?

Fifty black Gildan 18500 hoodies with a one-color front screen print are $29.47 each before sales tax, in sizes S to XL. A two-color front is $30.51, and 2XL and up cost more because of the supplier upcharge.

What is the minimum order for team shirts?

Screen printing starts at 36 pieces per design, DTF at 12, embroidery at 24, and heat transfer vinyl at 6. DTG has no minimum, so a coaches-only order of a few shirts is possible.

Can each player have a different name and number?

Yes. Names and numbers are applied with heat transfer vinyl or DTF, piece by piece, on top of the main print, and quoted per piece. Send the roster with spellings and numbers along with the size list.

How far ahead should we order before the season starts?

Standard turnaround is about 2-3 weeks after the artwork is approved and the deposit is paid. Add time to collect sizes and a few days for the proof. Rush is available depending on the schedule, so tell us your date.

Do you have youth sizes for JV and freshman teams?

Yes. The Gildan 5000B youth tee and 18500B youth hoodie both run XS to XL in our catalog, so younger players can match the varsity look.
