At French Press Custom in Santa Fe Springs, embroidered logo hats start at 24 hats per design, and you can split those 24 across colors of the same blank. A run of 24 black Richardson 112 snapbacks with a front logo of up to 5,000 stitches is $19.00 per hat before sales tax, plus a one-time $45 digitizing fee, and the price per hat drops at 48, 100 and 200 hats.
Every price below comes from the same engine as our instant quote calculator.
How our hat minimum works
Our hat minimum is 24 pieces per design, whatever the decoration, so there is no smaller minimum hiding behind a different method. Three details make 24 easier to reach:
- It is per design, not per color. One logo on 24 hats counts as one design. You can mix colors of the same blank inside that 24, for example 12 black and 12 navy Richardson 112s with the same logo.
- Digitizing is paid once. The $45 fee turns your logo into a stitch file. We keep that file, so a reorder of the same logo has no digitizing charge.
- The logo size is built in. The base price includes a front logo of up to 5,000 stitches; bigger logos add a little per hat.
What happens under 24 hats
If you enter fewer than 24 hats for one design in the calculator, it does not produce a price. It shows the message "Hats have a 24 piece minimum per design, whatever the decoration," and a request sent in for fewer than 24 is reviewed by our team instead of priced automatically. Hats used to drop to a smaller minimum on some print methods; that is no longer the case, so 24 is the number to plan around for any hat.
If you only need a handful, the practical move is to round up to 24 and keep the extras for new hires or events.
Price per hat from 24 to 200
All prices below are for a black Richardson 112 snapback trucker with one front logo of up to 5,000 stitches. They are per hat before sales tax, and include the blank and the embroidery. The $45 digitizing fee is shown separately and spread across the run in the last column.
| Hats in the run | Pricing tier | Embroidery per hat | Hat plus embroidery, per hat | Order before tax, with $45 digitizing | Per hat with digitizing spread in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24 | 24-47 | $7.88 | $19.00 | $501.00 | $20.88 |
| 36 | 24-47 | $7.88 | $19.00 | $729.00 | $20.25 |
| 47 | 24-47 | $7.88 | $19.00 | $938.00 | $19.96 |
| 48 | 48-99 | $6.56 | $17.68 | $893.64 | $18.62 |
| 72 | 48-99 | $6.56 | $17.68 | $1,317.96 | $18.30 |
| 99 | 48-99 | $6.56 | $17.68 | $1,795.32 | $18.13 |
| 100 | 100-199 | $5.25 | $16.37 | $1,682.00 | $16.82 |
| 144 | 100-199 | $5.25 | $16.37 | $2,402.28 | $16.68 |
| 200 | 200-399 | $4.38 | $15.50 | $3,145.00 | $15.72 |
The blank itself is $11.12 in every row. Only the embroidery rate changes, and it changes in steps: $7.88 per hat from 24 to 47, $6.56 from 48 to 99, $5.25 from 100 to 199, and $4.38 from 200 to 399.
The tier edges matter more than you think
Look at 47 and 48. Forty-seven hats come to $938.00 before tax, and 48 hats come to $893.64. One more hat moves the whole run into the next tier, and the order gets cheaper overall. The same thing happens at 99 and 100: $1,795.32 for 99 hats, $1,682.00 for 100.
So if your count lands just under a tier line, price the next tier up before you submit. On a Richardson 112 with a 5,000-stitch logo, 48 hats cost less than any order of 45 to 47, 100 hats cost less than 93 to 99, and 200 hats cost less than 190 to 199.
What else moves the price
- Stitch count. Going from a 5,000-stitch logo to an 8,000-stitch logo on the same 24 hats adds $1.15 per hat ($20.15 instead of $19.00). Our stitch count guide shows how to estimate yours.
- Extra placements. A side or back logo is its own placement, with its own per-hat cost and its own digitizing.
The live tiers for every quantity are on our embroidery cost guide.
Best hat styles for a small embroidered run
On a run of 24 to 48, the best blank fits everyone without a size list, so we steer small runs toward adjustable closures. All five styles below are in our live catalog.
| Hat | Build | Closure | Colors in our catalog | Per hat at 24 | Per hat at 48 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Richardson 112 | 60/40 cotton/poly front, poly mesh back, structured six-panel, mid profile | Snapback | 115 | $19.00 | $17.68 |
| Richardson 115 | Same fabric as the 112, structured six-panel, low profile | Snapback | 41 | $19.00 | $17.68 |
| YP Classics 6245CM | 100% cotton chino twill, unstructured six-panel, low profile | Buckle with grommet | 13 | $18.26 | $16.94 |
| Valucap VC300A | 100% cotton bio-washed chino twill, unstructured six-panel, low profile | Fabric strap with brass buckle | 42 | $13.48 | $12.16 |
| Sportsman SP12 | 100% acrylic 12 inch cuffed beanie (heathers are blends) | Cuffed knit, one size | 35 | $12.06 | $10.74 |
Prices are per hat before sales tax, black, one logo of up to 5,000 stitches, plus the $45 digitizing fee once per design. Fabric and build details are from the S&S Activewear catalog descriptions for each style.
Richardson 112: the safe default. A structured front keeps a logo flat and crisp, the snapback adjusts, and 115 colorways make it easy to match a brand. If you are torn between the 112, a fitted Flexfit 6277 and the YP Classics 6006, we compare them in detail in Richardson 112 vs Flexfit 6277 vs YP 6006 for embroidery.
Richardson 115: same price, lower crown. For people who find a standard trucker too tall.
YP Classics 6245CM: the classic dad hat. Soft, unstructured cotton with a buckle strap, for a relaxed look on staff or merch. On a soft crown, a simpler logo of modest size stitches best. More options are on our dad hats page.
Valucap VC300A: the budget dad hat. The same unstructured, buckle-back shape at $13.48 per hat for 24, with 42 colors.
Sportsman SP12: for cold-weather or winter giveaways. A cuffed beanie is one size, so there is no sizing at all, and it is the lowest price per piece of the five. See our beanies page.
What to avoid on a small run: fitted caps sold in sizes. The Flexfit 6277, for example, comes in S/M, L/XL and XL/2XL. On 24 hats, splitting by size means guessing who wears what, and a leftover hat only fits one size of head.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for embroidered hats with a logo?
Our minimum is 24 hats per design, whatever the decoration. You can split the 24 across colors of the same blank, so 12 black and 12 navy with the same logo counts as one run of 24.
Can I order fewer than 24 embroidered hats?
The calculator will not price a hat design under 24. A request for fewer hats is reviewed by our team rather than priced automatically. Rounding up to 24 is usually the simplest route, and the price per hat stays the same from 24 to 47.
How much does one embroidered hat cost at the minimum?
At 24 hats, a black Richardson 112 with a front logo of up to 5,000 stitches is $19.00 per hat before sales tax, plus a one-time $45 digitizing fee. That is $501.00 for the order before tax, or $20.88 per hat with digitizing spread in.
When does the price per hat go down?
The embroidery rate steps down at 48, 100 and 200 hats. On a Richardson 112, the per-hat price goes from $19.00 at 24 to $17.68 at 48, $16.37 at 100 and $15.50 at 200, before tax.
Is 48 hats really cheaper than 47?
Yes, on our current pricing. Forty-seven Richardson 112s come to $938.00 before tax and 48 come to $893.64, because 48 moves the order into a lower embroidery tier. Check the next tier whenever you are a few hats short of it.
Do I pay the digitizing fee again on a reorder?
No. The $45 digitizing fee is charged once per logo. We keep your stitch file on record, so a reorder of the same logo has no digitizing charge and matches the first run.
Which hat is best for a small embroidered order?
An adjustable style, so one size fits the whole group. The Richardson 112 snapback is our default; the YP Classics 6245CM or Valucap VC300A suit a softer dad hat look, and the Sportsman SP12 beanie needs no sizing at all.
How long do embroidered hats take?
About 2-3 weeks after art approval. Rush is available depending on the schedule, so tell us your date when you request a quote.
