Sizes 2XL and up carry a supplier upcharge on every one of these garments, so a real order with a size spread lands a little above these figures. The calculator prices each size for you.
For context, our Los Angeles custom apparel price index summarizes 415 real FPC quotes since January 2025. Screen print quotes in the 100 to 249 piece band had a median of $11.79 per piece, with the middle half between $8.66 and $17.85, because real orders add colors, back prints, and premium blanks.
Screen printing: the lowest cost for one logo on 100 shirts
When the logo is one to three solid colors and every shirt gets the same design, screen printing is the cheapest way to do 100 shirts. The screens are made once and the per-shirt print rate drops as quantity rises. A one-color left-chest logo on a black Gildan 5000 is $9.05; adding a one-color back print brings it to $12.90.
A detail from our shop floor that changes a lot of quotes: on any shirt that is not clearly light, we print a white underbase under your ink so the color stays bright. That is an extra screen, and our quote includes it automatically. Black, navy, red and royal all get it. If you want the lowest possible price, a light shirt with dark ink skips it.
Screen printing starts at 36 pieces per design. See screen printing for ink options.
DTG: when the logo is full color or a photo
DTG prints the design like an inkjet, so color count does not matter and there are no screens. That makes it the right choice for full-color logos, gradients, and photos. At 100 pieces it still costs more per shirt than screen printing: the DTG print alone is $8.00 per shirt on white, while even a six-color screen print on a white shirt is $6.95. DTG wins when the art cannot be separated into spot colors at all, or when you need fewer than 36 shirts.
DTG looks best on a smooth ring-spun shirt like the Bella+Canvas 3001; the open-end cotton of a Gildan 5000 mutes fine detail. Dark shirts cost more because the printer lays down white ink first. We wash-tested our DTG prints in Is DTG printing good quality?. DTG has no minimum, so you can order one sample before the full run. More on the method at DTG printing.
Embroidery: the most professional look
For client-facing staff, front desk, sales teams and anyone in a polo, embroidery is the standard. Thread does not crack or peel, and a stitched logo reads as a uniform rather than a giveaway. A left-chest logo up to 5,000 stitches on a Gildan 8800 polo is $18.62 per shirt, with the $45 digitizing fee paid once. We keep the stitch file, so a reorder of the same logo skips that fee.
You can also embroider a tee: the same left-chest logo on a black Gildan 5000 is $11.20 per shirt plus the digitizing fee. Embroidery starts at 24 pieces per design. See embroidery and the embroidery cost guide.
How to choose for your business
- One simple logo, tight budget, events or crew shirts: screen print on a Gildan 5000.
- Staff will wear it often and the shirt represents the brand: screen print on a Bella+Canvas 3001.
- Full-color or detailed artwork: DTG on a Bella+Canvas 3001.
- Front-of-house, office, and client-facing teams: embroidered polos.
Many businesses split the order: polos for managers and client-facing staff, screen printed tees for the rest. Each design is priced on its own minimum. Our screen printing vs embroidery and screen printing vs DTG pages go deeper, and custom uniforms for small businesses covers sizing and reorders.
